What are the Best Dementia-Related Memory Care Communities Near Me?

Do you have a loved one who is living with memory loss due to Alzheimer’s or dementia? At The Moments Memory Care, we know it can be difficult caring for a loved one who is suffering memory loss while still living together at home. As you begin exploring care options outside your home, it can be an emotional journey where many questions surface along the way. We’re here to help you navigate this process to find the best dementia-related memory care locations near you that will suit the needs and values of your family.

While there are many different senior care facilities, a place that specializes in memory care is the best option for someone who is suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia. Memory care communities are specifically designed for the needs of those living with memory loss, and the needs of their families as well. In this article, we will outline options for dementia-related memory care near you in an effort to help you make the best decision for your loved one and your family.

Assisted Living Lakeville, Minn.

When you are thinking about a long-term residential option for your loved one, you have many options to consider. Perhaps your first thought for your loved one who is living with dementia is an assisted living community. An assisted living facility is a residential facility for people, often the elderly, who need varying levels of medical and personal care. A memory care center is a specific type of assisted living.

The services and level of care offered in assisted living varies from facility to facility. This is because there is no federal definition in the United States of what exactly constitutes an assisted living facility. While assisted living is the right choice for many people, it is very important to find a community designed to best serve individuals suffering from memory loss. These elements include programming, trained care providers, building design and aesthetics.

Senior Center

A senior center is yet another option for communities for the elderly. However, a senior center is typically not residential. It is a type of community center where senior citizens meet to fulfill their social, physical, and intellectual needs. Many towns have locally-funded senior centers like the Lakeville senior center.

Though a senior center might also have come to mind when you were considering the best dementia-related memory care locations near you, unfortunately a senior center is not a viable option for a loved one who is living with memory loss as it does not provide all of the required or necessary services to adequately care for your loved one.

What is a Memory Care Community?

Memory care communities are equipped to handle the needs of those with memory loss – providing necessary care across the continuum of memory loss. In addition to providing basic services, medical care, medicine distribution, assistance with daily activities, memory care communities offer a wide array of services and programming specific to those living with memory loss to ensure a healthy wellbeing and quality of life.

Memory care centers are staffed by trained experts who are experienced in providing a unique form of care to those who have memory loss. A specialized community can ease the transition for families who want the best for their loved ones. If you want to ensure your loved one is cared for in the best possible way, memory care might be the answer for your family.

Some memory care communities, like The Moments Memory Care, are architecturally designed to reduce stress and increase safety for those suffering from dementia-related memory loss. Our community was designed with our patients in mind from the very beginning. Specifically, at The Moments, our hospital-grade HVAC systems creates odor-free, clean air quality, ample natural lighting with large windows, heated flooring throughout to create comfort and help regulate core body temps, and unrestrained access to our safe outdoor areas.

Memory care centers are also designed to be as safe as possible for residents who are suffering from memory loss. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than half of patients diagnosed with memory loss will wander. That’s why The Moments is equipped with the latest safety technology. All exterior doors at The Moments operate on an e-system that silently alerts staff on their iPads when a Resident is attempting egress and sends a real-time video of that door.

Our goal is to provide a sense of freedom to the Residents while simultaneously providing the highest level of safety and security.

These are some specific characteristics of a memory care community and how this type of care community is designed, staffed and managed to create a home environment and the right-level of care for those suffering from memory loss.

Memory Care Facilities Near Me

The difficult reality of dementia-related conditions is that it’s a progressive disease and loved ones deteriorate over time. Therefore, a long-term care community that feels like home and where staff and the entire community feel like an extension of family can help ease this transition for a loved one.

Luckily, there are memory care facilities that provide an exceptional level of care to help ensure that their residents maintain an improved quality of life. Finding a nearby memory care facility like The Moments will vastly aid in the transition.

How to Find the Best Memory Care Facilities in Minnesota

How do you choose the best memory care facility for your loved one? Here are some things to keep in mind as you make your decision.

Care

The most important aspect of any memory care center is the level of care offered for residents. At The Moments Memory Care, we go beyond just medicating our patients and approach memory loss with the sensory design method. As opposed to some other facilities, we aim to stimulate each of our residents’ five senses daily through non-pharmaceutical memory treatment.

Programming

Another aspect to consider when searching for the best dementia-related memory care location near you is the activities available for residents. It is important for those living with memory loss to still have the opportunity to participate in some kind of programming that engages their minds. At The Moments Memory Care, we offer music, art, theater, storytelling, gardening, and movement therapies. Our programming is centered around the latest advances in Alzheimer’s and dementia-related care.
